Thiruvananthapuram: Emotions ran high at Magic Planet on Tuesday as renowned magician PC Sorcar Jr unveiled the ‘Water of India’ statue of his father, the legendary illusionist PC Sorcar.

The moment he saw the statue, Sorcar Jr’s eyes filled with tears. “There has never been a statue of my father anywhere in India. This is the greatest tribute I could imagine, and no words are enough to thank Magic Planet and Gopinath Muthukad for it,” he said. 

He added that the most fitting place for the statue was “this wonderland of magic,” Magic Planet itself.

The Water of India, which depicts an endless flow of water from an empty vessel, has long been one of the most iconic acts in magic. Sorcar Sr performed it until his death during a show in Japan, after which his son carried the legacy forward.

During the ceremony, Sorcar Jr praised Gopinath Muthukad’s social initiatives, noting that he had set aside a successful career as a professional magician to work for marginalised communities. “His dedication is truly remarkable,” he said.

Prominent businessman and chief guest Gokulam Gopalan honoured Sorcar Jr, his wife Jayashree Devi, and Maneka Sorcar at the event.
